A Magical Journey Through “Little House” History: Fan Visits Filming Sites in Columbia, California

Last week, a devoted Little House on the Prairie fan traveled to the United States to attend a special Little House event in Columbia, California, a beautifully preserved Gold Rush town located just two hours from Sacramento.

The historic location, which became a California State Park in 1945, served as the filming site for several memorable episodes of the beloved series, including “The Excursion,” “The Son,” “A Beautiful Mess,” “The Beautiful Age,” and “The Law.”

“3 great days in the company of the actors,” the fan shared.
“While searching the internet, I found Jonathan’s Mountain (from ‘The Son,’ Season 1) and the place where ‘The Excursion’ (Season 2) was filmed. A lot of emotions heading to these set locations.”

The trip was made even more special by a scenic ride on the historic locomotive number 3, famously featured in multiple episodes of the series. Visitors also got to see the location from the episode “Crazy Wagon” (Season 2) — making this a once-in-a-lifetime experience for any true fan of the show.

“Nothing but happiness!” the fan concluded.
